The L-1011 TriStar: It was the third widebody airliner to enter service, but one of the most technologically advanced passenger jets in the world when it took to the skies in 1970s. And it was gorgeous, with a sinuous S-duct air inlet in its tail that would make a 727 jealous. Alas, the TriStar’s cutting-edge tech, low noise levels and outstanding fuel economy came with a high price tag - literally. It did not sell nearly as well as its clunky trijet competitor. Only 250 were built and today, but a single L-1011 is still flying. Our Tristar shirt honors this marvelous airplane.
